Original letter from the Captain of HMS Queen dated May 6th 1813. The letter is written while the ship was "in the Downs" - the Downs is a sheltered sea off the east Kent coast - requesting a long list of supplies form a naval victualler.
HMS Queen was launched in 1769 with a crew of 758. It saw service in the Napoleonic wars and participated in:
The First Battle of Ushant
Second Battle of Ushant
Battle of Cape Spartel
Glorious First of June.
It was apparently also fitted out to bring troops back from Europe after the War, including bringing the Coldstream Guards home from Garonne.
The writing overlain on the scans is there to prevent copying - it does not appear on the item!
