Soviet Russian USSR medal Order of the Red Star, scarce “screwpost-base” variation, with serial number in the 100-199 thousand range range, awarded in early 1942 to Guards Senior Technical Lieutenant Valentin Dmitrievich Zinovev, an engineer for the 11th Long-Range Bomber Aviation Regiment, 22nd Long-Range Bomber Aviation Division, for servicing 144 bomber flights and fully restoring 5 planes that were damaged in combat, despite challenging conditions. The regiment was armed with DB-3 and TB-3 bombers.

Zinovev additionally earned the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class and the Medal for the Capture of Budapest, as well as a second Red Star for length of service.

Condition is great, as seen in the images! Minor wear, but the enamel is free of chips, which is a rarity on early Red Stars worn in the field.

The serial number of the award is authentic and matches the serial number shown in the archival documents, obviously! If you require confirmation in advance, please send me a message, and I will gladly provide images. Over time, I have found that redacting award serial numbers in certain listings (particularly of researched awards) has acted a simple and effective filter to sort good customers from troublesome eBay hooligans. Reasonable, rational collectors who are genuinely interested in the history represented by an award will make the effort to reach out and will quickly find that everything is in order.
