When RCA displayed television for the first time at the New York World’s Fair in 1939, visitors were amazed. The new medium had been many years in the making, and audiences long anticipated the day when they could own a TV. But the restrictions of World War II slowed television’s growth, and sets weren’t made readily available to Americans until about 1946.
