This one is an oldie but goodie based on the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle (the cat and the fiddle)

This is a rare old rattle whistle that hung from a chatelaine that can now be worn as a pendant as it has a little O handle on the back

The sterling silver whistle setting features 3D artwork of the Cat and the Fiddle on one side and the Cow jumping over the moon on the other side

 - 

 It is approximately 3-3/4” end to end

 -

 approximately 36.4 grams

this unique rattle whistle is old, so you will see surface wear, scratches and heavy patina, however overall, the condition will be considered very good

 -

 There are no broken off pieces or overt damage to either the sterling or the MOP but if you look at the last 3 pictures, there is a seam along the edge of the shell that has some darkening with age; I believe this is a naturally occurring seam from the shell and not a crack

There was a makers mark at one time, however all I can read right now B13

In doing research online, I found this exact piece was made by Gorham in the late 1800’s

this piece was tested and guaranteed minimally 925 sterling silver except for the little O ring handle; it showed lesser silver content

 - 

We have not cleaned, polished nor shined this item.
