Hunslet 0-4-0 ex-Tunnelling Diesel originally built for the construction of the Jubilee line extension of the London Underground

Prototype examples are "Peter Wood" (PW) at LBR, "Emma" (and "Kathy") at WHR, "Col Frederick Wiley" which was at Beeches Light Railway, "Murphy" at Statfold Barn, and "Mennock" at Leadhills.

The near 100HP of these locos enables them to be used as "Thunderbird" (Rescue) engines. Optional parts allow any of these locos to be represented, there are 2 roof styles, and a ‘break line’ to allow the cab to be removed.

Chassis not included, please read notes below. Also see this video: How to strip down chassis, and add keeper-plate also Inserting and removing the chassis

Please check all the photos, and read the text below to know what you are receiving. There are no instructions with the kit, so refer to notes below and the videos!

There is a video of a 2 painted locos

Dimensions: Max height from rail top: 33mm (roof), max width: 17mm (handrails), length to end of couplings: 70mm

Separate parts are included to allow the various prototypes to be modelled.

Parts, supplied UNPAINTED:
1 - Main Body - including couplings + much of cab interior
2 - Roofs – one flat (Emma), one peaked (PW) supplied joined together
2 - Bonnet halves – note orientation (Front/Rear marked) supplied joined together

2 - Motor isolator disks (1 spare) may be attached to body
1 - Door (Emma) - note handrails on body may need removing
2 - Sets of fittings (1 spare) - Main seat, small seat, back shelf, chimney + blank, front and rear hazard lamps (PW), cab step (Emma) * normally all attached inside the cab/bonnet - see photo

Chassis: not included, use a stripped down Kato 11-109 Chassis can also use a Kato 11-108 or 11-110. There is a pre-built Kato Core Chassis with CoreKeeper Plate and a dummy chassis is available on request.

Take care when inserting/removing - it is 'slot and slide' - refer to the videos listed above. The Core Keeper plate itself is not oriented. The Kato chassis has L/R marked and the motor worm gear must be at front !. Motor is held down by the body straps, without the body, the motor will ride up, and can strip the gears. One of the photos show the locked and unlocked positions for the chassis, when sliding, hold the body by the ends, and avoid pushing on anything delicate ! Twist a terminal screwdriver to help lever the chassis in/out, as per the above video, and press the chassis up into the body against the motor top straps.

IMPORTANT: I have now added a Motor Isolator Disk, this is placed between the motor and the metal ridge. I have recently found various issues with the Kato chassis, including tight gear train, loose flywheels, and loose worms gears. The motor can short the split chassis if it move too far forward. The loose worm not only makes the drive slow or inoperable, but can also move forward and short the chassis. These faults have also been observed on the unmodified Kato 11-109 and 11-110 chassis, so beware.

Bonnet: Supplied with 2 halves still joined, apply slight sideways force to separate, then clean up supports. Bonnet is keyed, and filler caps go on RHS. Can be left removable or lightly fixed for easy access extra weight or decoder, and to aid with chassis fitting.

Roofs/cab: Supplied with 2 halves still joined, apply slight sideway force to seperate, then clean up supports. Roofs have door opening on one side, can be left removable or lightly fixed. The cab has a break line at the level of the bonnet, the idea of this is to allow the top to be carefully removed, if you want to model the more original form of the tunneling loco.

Door: modelled on Emma's. If fitted then the handrails on the cab (only on Col Fred) need removing or at least the front one. The door does have a split line so should be possible to model the top half open - good luck with that !

ASSEMBLY: the parts attached inside can be detached by gentle sideways presure, photos show the locations (may change) and where they fit in, most have location pegs or slots. The chimney can have the curved top cut off, and there are 2 location holes in the bonnet, the spares can be plugged and sanded level. I would recommend painting the bonnet separately, and then only lightly attaching it, to allow easy access if required.
Parts can be super-glued/epoxy, but I generally use white/PVC glue, so you can prise them apart if needed ! Remember, glues for polystyrene/plastic kits don’t work with 3D printed resins.

The parts are printed in high-resolution resin, normally in white. All prints have been cleaned and cured thoroughly, but as with all 3D prints, there may be small blemishes to tidy up, particularly check along edges of bonnet.

All 3D models can be a little delicate, so don't drop them on the floor ! Also, we recommend any work be done with a file/sandpaper rather than trying to cut, as this is gentler.

We cannot be held responsible for breakage during handling, but if they are damaged in the post, then please provide photographic evidence of packaging etc.

We can often dispatch same day, but allow 2 days. At times there may be a delay if we have to make parts to order.

Lastly, I am always interested in feedback, both on this model, and suggestions for what to work on next.

Please check Brooks3Dmodels.com for up to date model lists, as eBay make it impossible to update all the listings here.
