Antique and vintage items make nicer than new gifts

Item

Those of us of a certain age fondly remember the Old Hall brand and its products as leaders in style, design and quality from the early 1950s to the early 1980s. Its products became the nation's favourite wedding presents. Contemporary in 'look' and yet very functional in a modern home of the time.

This complete Campden coffee and/or hot chocolate set has become a famous icon for the UK's post-war inspired approach to the design of homeware products and it still looks as cool and contemporary today as it did 60 years ago.

The components of the Campden set are a one pint coffee or hot chocolate pot with a teak right- hand handle; a matched one pint hot milk jug with a teak left-hand handle; a quite rare sugar pot (in effect the lower third of the coffee pot/milk jug); and a pair of sugar tongs (with box). The tongs were shown with the Campden set when marketed in the early 1960s, but later, in 1980, they appeared as part of the Alveston cutlery range.

The items (excluding the tongs) share a common backstamp, which references Robert Welch as the designer, and the style suggests that this particular set was manufactured in the early 1970s.

We've collected Old Hall for many years, but it's downsizing time so that's why we are offering this sought-after set to others.

Condition

All our items have been previously owned and are usually between ten and 210 years old. Inevitably (and often reassuringly) they show authentic signs of age and wear which we try to reflect in our images. In this case, the set is in great condition after over half a century...no dents, obvious scratching or evidence of excessive use.

Pricing

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the UK and international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!

You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices. We don't give items away, but they're listed to sell and we are always willing to consider realistic offers.

Shipping

We have a 100pc success rate for over a decade of successfully shipping antiques and collectables across the UK and the wider World. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us and subsidise the cost of packing materials to try to make shipping as economical as possible.

International shipping? Since Covid, we have started to use eBay's Global Shipping Programme because it has proved to be competitive and reliable. However, we also have access to an on-line international broker and if you would like us to check-out other rates, please ask us before buying.
