1967 TOPPS BASEBALL EMPTY WAX BOX
VARIETY: Gold Rush
BBCE Authenticated & Sealed
DESCRIPTION: A beautiful addition to any collection of high-grade vintage Topps packaging. Very clean empty display box of the original 5-cent wax box release. One owner since 1967 (see below). Identified as authentic and sealed by BBCE. Freshly submitted and received (November 2023). The
first set of photos are of the box with the BBCE seal. The second set
of photos are of the box in its raw state, before submission to BBCE.
VARIETY: This is the version of the box that shows:
- Generic image/text on front vertical panel, like on top panel (instead of Brooks Robinson Pin-Up promo);
- "GOLD RUSH" promo on back vertical panel (instead of Bazooka Book promo or "REAL GOLD" promo);
- "GOLD RUSH" promo on bottom panel (instead of Bazooka gift certificate promo or "REAL GOLD" promo); and
- Box code "1-401-37-03-7" on bottom panel
AUTHENTICITY: Steve Hart of Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE), based in Schererville, Indiana, is the recognized industry leader in the authentication of wax packs and wax boxes. All BBCE-treated boxes feature a foam block inserted inside to maintain the square shape, a full wrap in an ultra-clear acid-free plastic, and a seal on bottom asserting its authenticity and identity, with holographic security features.
CONDITION: VERY GOOD or better on a simple four-grade scale of Poor-Good-Very Good-Fine. No dents, chips, or holes. Bold colors and bright whites with consistent image clarity. Sturdy and square even in raw state. Smooth panel surfaces with no obvious scratching or scuffing; no unnatural creases except for a few small ones on the top panel; no dents or holes. Very minor normal white/chipping on some edges and corners. The top panel shows some writing in ink above the word LEAGUE. Tough to find this box in high-grade condition.
PROVENANCE:
I recently began assisting a local retired professional with his vast
childhood collection of sports and non-sports cards, sports memorabilia, books, and
toys (partially shown in last pic). He kept nearly everything he
acquired as a kid, including packaging ephemera. Back in the '60s and '70s he personally purchased around 50 sport and non-sport trading card boxes, including this one, and still has many of the pack wrappers and cards they came with. (See photo of the recent boxes we submitted to BBCE.) He
stored the wax boxes in an outer box for 50+ years in smoke-free, climate-controlled homes. Before now he had never attempted to
sell any of his boxes or cards; they've never been handled at card shops,
shows, or garage sales. A time-capsule fresh vintage wax box
with one original owner all these years.
SHIPPING: Cost includes full insurance. Shipped
securely in bubble wrap in spacious outer box via USPS Priority (2-3 business days).
