A WW1 British Army map which belonged to Company Quartermaster Sergeant Thomas Harrison Dawson of the Army Service Corps.

A generation later in WW2, and then serving as a 'Captain' of the 1028th Port Operating Company (Royal Engineers), he also came ashore on Sword Beach on 6th June 1944 as part of No.6 Beach Group. Their immediate role was to establish and operate the essential ‘Beach Maintenance Areas’ with regards incoming troops, ammunition, fuel, vehicles, specialist equipment and other supplies, as well as to ensure the swift evacuation of casualties and prisoners of war.
