Antique 19th c. (1897) GORHAM STERLING (.925) SILVER
½-Pint Glass Flask /Bottle and Removable Silver Cup

• DIMENSIONS: 7½" tall (19 cm) x 3¾" wide
• WEIGHT: 1 Pound (450 g)
• CAPACITY: ½ pint
• CONDITION: Excellent antique condition! Clear, crisp detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations. Interior is very clean glass.
• DISCUSSION: Beautiful 19th century Gorham glass ½-pint safari flask, with both sterling silver cup and hinged sterling bayonet closure twist-seal top (with intact original cork seal). One side of the cup is engraved with two beautiful stylized calligraphic letters that look like just a pretty embellishment to my eyes are most likey initials–you decide. Clad in tough lizard reptile leather with a slot void, on both sides, to visualize the level of fill. The cup is gilt inside. Excellent antique condition overall. Hallmarked indicating maker and date of manufacture (1897) pictorially from left to right, "LION, ANCHOR and a letter G, and reads, STERLING, S651, ½ PINT". Excellent addition to any antique collection, or a thoughtful gift!

The U.S.-based Gorham Manufacturing Company first opened its doors in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island, under the management of co-founders Jabez Gorham and Henry Webster. The intrepid duo had hoped to build a business creating smaller wares such as buttons and combs. In the late-1840s, however, when Jabez handed control of the company over to his son, John, Gorham’s production began to focus on larger silver sets.
