This is a vintage classic English black Bowler hat, British-made in London.
If you have visited our eBay shop you'll know that we speciaise in ceramics and glass...not hats...so we don't have much knowledge to draw upon to describe the finer detail of this lovely bowler.
The smoothness of the material suggests that it's modeled out of fur felt (?) rather than wool felt. We can see that it has a black growgrain hat band with a bow. The bowler has a leather sweatband with the impressed maker's mark that reads : "British Make/ Hand Finished/ London".
The band also has a small paper sticker with the hat-size (6.7/8in) and a hand written name, "Mark S", presumably the previous owner.
PRICING
Whenever
possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the
genre or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international
market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two
very different things!
You
will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between
auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to
consider realistic offers.
Most
of our items are on a Buy Now basis but in this instance, although new bowlers are expensive and pre-owned bowlers like this sell well too, we don't really have a clue as to its value. So we'll let
the market decide by offering the set for auction with a modest starting price.

We have a 100pc success rate for over a decade in successfully shipping fragile antiques and collectables across the UK and the wider World. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us and subsidise the cost of packing materials.
