The Pathan Borderland, by C. M. Enriquez (21st Punjabis). Second edition (with additional information), published in 1921 by Thacker, Spink & Co., India. "A consecutive account of the country and people on and beyond the Indian frontier from Chitral to Dera Ismail Khan." Written from a military perspective. Major Colin Metcalfe Enriquez served with the 21st Punjabis in Northern India and the Kachin Rifles in Burma. The narrative paints a picture of the North-West frontier of India (including Waziristan - now one of the most dangerous places in the world and home to the Taliban) before the upheavals of World War I; this edition was revised to take into consideration the Pathan War, Afghan War and two Waziri Wars that intervened.  With 10 plates (many portraits) and maps including a frontispiece showing Mastan Gul -- Kala Khel, Afridi.  One plate is missing (#11). .  Contains the frontispiece foldout map showing the Pathan Borderland and also the large foldout at the back showing the number of Pathans serving in the native infantry on 1/1/1908. Recently rebound in black cloth with spine label with gilt titles.  Notation on the first page of F. N. Moreland, Yenangyuang, Upper Burma and also similar on the last page. Title page paper age-browned.
