1980 Gibson Sonex-180 Custom electric guitar, made in USA with aftermarket hard case. These models are getting harder and harder to find now, especially in full working order. Looks the part for a guitar over 40 years old and plays really well. Everything functions as it should. Very slight crackle when using a couple of the pots but to be expected and will clear up no doubt with a bit of contact cleaner. The bridge could do with raising a hair on the treble side, but that would be my preference and I will leave this to whoever buys it to decide on that.

Body: vintage white finish (starting to yellow as per pictures), dings to edges, contour rubbing and other minor marks but generally good for it's age. All this is to be expected on a guitar that is over 40 years old that has been well used.

Neck: bolt-on, heavy wear to back (looks to me as if its either been played a lot or the neck has had the finish removed or its had a refinish which wasn't great). Having since consulted with a collector of these guitars he is of the opinion that is typical wear on the neck for that Gibson finish. The neck is a 3 piece maple and will not get that typical Gibson neck break and/or headstock split such as Les Pauls using particular materials. This was only used on the Custom not the Deluxe or Standard Sonex.

Fretboard: ebony. It looks like like the ebony was dyed in places to hide the minor repairs from on the fingerboard where it is so hard to get the hooked fret wire out of ebony.

Frets: mild wear (potentially had a re-fret). Having consulted with a collector of these guitars he is of the opinion that it has 100% had a re-fret. With the amount of wear on the back of the neck the fret would need replacing.

Electrics: Gibson Dirty Fingers with coil tapping (much hotter than the new ones produced now) working as expected.

Hardware: good with minimal signs of plating loss.

Weight: 4.50kg

Overall condition: good for age.
