About the item: Rare ,very large late 19th century surgeons medical instrument set,c1890. I have owned a few of these over the years but this is by far the best and most comprehensive. Housed in a lovely rosewood/mahogany box which is metal lined are 4 removeable steel trays. They fit like a glove so were clearly designed to always be together. The box has (now detached) makers labels for Allen and Hanbury's ,London and many of the instruments are marked Anderson and Dodds, Birmingham. Allen and Hanbury's Ltd were a noted British pharmaceutical company founded in 1715 and taken over by GlaxoSmithKline. There are around 51 individual instruments/pieces including Liston style amputation knives, steel Capital saw,2 part trephine, various knives, saws, forceps and many other tools and accessories. The overall weight is 9.4kg which again indicates the scale/number of instruments. Overall condition is good in line with age and use, there are minor marks, signs of use ,all as you would expect from a piece of this age. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view the item or have any questions.
