Traditional Irish Dubbing
Blending coloured bodies of
different shades has been a passion of Irish fly-tiers for the past 200 years.
Flies with gradual colour changes
from tail to head, the body dubbing picked out, intermingled fibres giving
wonderful shades of Clarets, Olives, Greens and Browns.
Traditional Irish Dubbing goes a
long way to provide the angler/fly-tier with a range with which he can further
experiment, to produce more stunning blends for trout, sea trout and salmon
patterns.
I hope this range will provide a
link with the fly-tying techniques of the past, and give an interest to present
day tiers to experiment with tried and tested colours and blends and use it
hopefully to develop new and successful patterns for the future.
Traditional
Irish Dubbing has been developed and used by Frankie Mc Phillips for over 25
years in tying flies commercially for the Irish market. The 48 shades will
enable the fly-dresser to tie the widest and most authentic range of Irish Trout
and Salmon flies possible, from the old favourites, i.e. Mallard and Claret,
Sooty and Golden Olives to the newer Bumble and Dabbler patterns. Traditional
Irish Dubbing is also suitable for tying all your dry and emerger patterns e.g.
mayflies and sedges, when used in conjunction with good quality cock hackles.
The blends have been authenticated by E.J. Malone, author of “Irish Trout and
Salmon Flies”, an expert fly-dresser and probably the country's leading
authority on Irish Fly Patterns. Traditional Irish Dubbing is available in
packets and boxed selections.
