Fairies.....the 'elemental spirits' of ancient myth. Every culture has its tales of fairies, their powers, and their deeds...
I designed this book as a compact Book of Shadows or Grimoire for Wicca practitioners. It would also make a good private journal/diary.
The cover of the journal is hand-tooled with a 'blackberry fairy' inspired by Cicely Mary Barker's famous illustrations of 'Flower Fairies'.
The journal has a rugged cover of vintage buffalo hide and contains pages of unlined ivory cartridge paper. I have given the cover a lightly distressed finish and have coloured it with a wash of dark mahogany brown, in order to give it a natural and organic quality.
Size: Cover 8 x 6 inches (20x15cm), approx A5.
Contains: 100 leaves/200 usable sides of 150gsm cartridge art paper
Weight: 350 grams (approximately 1/2lb)
Quality: - Paper is genuine cartridge drawing paper. It is suitable for drawing and sketching, and for writing with pencil, Biro, and gel, and with water-based inks or water colour. It is also suited for a fountain pen. Binding: is genuine water-buffalo hide, stained with a natural mahogany brown dye that is derived from tree bark. The leather is of a heavy quality, and is thick but supple. The paper is bound in individually stitched quires; there is an inner flap to protect the edges of pages and a matching tie strap of goatskin thong to close it. Like all my books this journal is entirely handmade.
I love working with leather, but for ethical reasons I only use vintage leather for my books- ie leather from working animals that have come to the end of their lives.
