Guild Home Video Large scaled up replica of a VHS Video Film Cassette clamshell style box

The film is The Classic ‘The Postman Always Rings Twice’ staring the legendary Jack Nicholson

This item is made of wood and perspex, wrapped in a replica sleeve of the movie original film graphics.. It is internally lit to create a backlight through the sleeve.

It measures -

605mm height

375mm width

80mm depth

This film was originally distributed in the 1980’s by Guild Home Video who were at the time the main/sole home video distributors in the UK

This also has the Guild Home Video seal/logo to one side of the case..

Originally I had thought this may have been a promotional piece displayed in video shops in the 80’s to promote the films.. in which case there would have been several made and likely for different films too.. I, along with a friend who is experienced in the movie memorabilia world have tried to research its original purpose, but have not managed to find out any evidence of its previous use, nor have we found any others or anything remotely similar..

Therefore I don’t think my original thoughts on it being a promotional piece is correct…

It has been suggested by someone from one the the movie memorabilia sites that there was only a few of these made to mark some of the best selling films Guild Home Video distributed at the time, ie - perhaps one of each made for a few different films and displayed in Guild Home Video Head Offices in England

This suggestion does sound plausible as looking at this item I can see it is very well made, it does, to some extent look professionally handmade, I can see clearly that it definitely is not a mass produced item which it would need to have been if all the video shops in UK displayed them at the time….although I still, after scouring the web several times over the years have not located another one for a different film.?

I have owned this item for approximately 15 years it came from a local vinyl/video shop that closed a long time ago and was discovered during shop clearance. I have have had it as a display piece in various locations in my house over the years- it always becomes a talking point with guests/ visitors that haven’t seen it before and I always hoped that one day someone would come in and recognise it from the 80’s and tell me something about it’s history… unfortunately not…

Im sure this is a very rare piece, I would, until proven wrong, say I think it is one of a kind… I have had various generous offers over the years but at the time refused to let it go… regardless it is definitely a collectors piece - wether your a VHS collector, movie/video film memorabilia collector or Jack Nicholson collector

As said I have owned it a long time but I have decided it’s time for it to move on to a new home, Like most people I would like as much as I can get for it, I hold it in high regard so will only be parting with it for a decent sum, if nobody seems to value it as much a I do then I’ll be quite happy to hold on to it…

Condition of this item is pretty good, it’s 40+ years old so is not new or perfect, it has various scrapes and scratches- please study photos to form your own opinion

Likely any interested parties will do some research like I have done, you may know where to look better than me, or maybe someone out there may already know more about it than me, if so please get in touch….
