Rare Antique Professor Nast's Sketching Rack for Young Artists 1800's Art

Extremely rare, in great condition, not sure if it is complete or not.

Contains all items that were found in the box when I purchased it. Contains some books for writing and drawing, some letters in a different language (possibly German), pencils, a trace book, sketch cards, red paint containers, a sketched map, and a few other papers and letters. Some came with the rack and others I believe belonged to the original owner in the 1800's

Wooden lap desk labeled Professor Nast's Sketching Rack for Young Artists, manufactured by C. C. Shepherd, New York, ca. 1885. The sub-title reads "The most important part of the Education of Children, in Drafting or Pencil Sketching. This Rack furnishes a complete outfit for that purpose." The desk is comprised of a wooden box with a hinged "double" lid. The uppermost lid is the smaller of the two, and bears the item label on the top surface, and provides space for holding a sample image (for copying) underneath. The second lid, also slanted, serves as the lid that covers the lower portion of the box. The top of this lid is covered with blue blotting paper.
