I read the reviews and looked at the YouTube videos and decided to take the plunge. The videos provided by the manufacturer are excellent. However, I went the route of another purchaser/reviewer who used suction cups, microfiber towel and spray bottle from Harbor Freight and the recommended Shur Line paint pad. Boy what a difference a properly cleaned record makes! I have previously used a one-step fluid record cleaner to "clean" some vintage vinyl that I picked up at a local record shop. Even after my, what I thought was thorough cleaning, there were still plenty of pops and clicks on vinyl that appeared to be in relatively good shape. No doubt, years of dust, smoke, grime, whatever still lurked deep in the groves. Once I properly cleaned and rinsed [NOTE: THIS IS NOT A ONE STEP PROCEEDURE. YOU MUST CLEAN AND RINSE YOUR VINYL!] my vinyl I would say 90% of the static residue, clicks and pops were GONE! Per the manufacturer's advice, I stored the cleaned vinyl in anti-static plastic sleeves so as to not re-deposit dust etc. to the refreshed records. I cannot recommend this product enough. Obviously, you won't be able to restore truly damaged vinyl to pristine condition but dirty records will sparkle if you use this cleaner as directed. If you're willing to take the time and (not really that much effort) to properly clean your vinyl you will not be disappointed.
$35 for a magic cleaning solution for my records? I was skeptical, but bit the bullet and took a chance based on glowing reviews I had read online.
I was not disappointed and it was worth every penny I spent. This thing works like a miracle in my ultrasonic cleaner, and I'll never use anything else. Just remember to rinse!
Look, forget all the record cleaning nonsense you read from delusional boomers and hapless hipsters. Wood glue, windex, Wd-40, etc., don’t work to any great degree. Tergitol does - and so says the Library of Congress and a number of archives that preserve recorded sound. This is a concentrate so will last a long time (though does have a shelf life). Best cleaner. Best bang for buck.
I am using this in an ultrasonic cleaner to complete a cleaning cycle starting with a pad cleaning machine then quick distilled water rince then ultrasound with TergiKleen followed by a very thorough distilled rinse spray finishing with vacuum wand moisure removal. Rinsing is critical. The results are phenominal. Nothing can repair damaged vinyl but for soiled vinyl chips this stuff does a job that is surprisingly superb. There was no removal of smutz from leftover silicone ( ah the Radioshack of the 70s) and also no activity on glue residue from lined inner sleeves coming unglued and left against the vinyl for an eternity but for "normal" soils and tobacco residue on used disks this stuff is the greatest.
I used this product to clean my old records that I have not played for over 15 years since my turntable quit working and some records from a thrift store. They look brand new and playable again, sound greatly improved, no surface noise like pops and cracks except for a few. I would have not revived my interest to vinyl records if not for my wife who convinced me to buy another turntable last Christmas. I also started buying old records from Value Village that are still in very good condition from famous artists and cheap, too They only need a good cleaning with Tergikleen. There’s a gold mine out there! I am glad I also kept my old Dual 701 turntable, still trying to figure out if I can get it working again.
