2023 Canada King Charles III First Strikes Special Wrap Roll Collection

The coins in this First Strikes set are among the first 2023-dated circulation coins struck at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility, and this year’s set holds the distinction of being the first of its kind to feature the new Canadian effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. The collector case contains a Special Wrap Roll of each standard denomination ($2, $1, 25¢, 10¢, 5¢) for a total of five rolls, each one wrapped in premium paper and sealed with a holographic label.

In keeping with tradition, His Majesty King Charles III’s profile faces left on each coin’s obverse—this is the opposite direction in which the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was depicted during her reign.

The previous effigy update was in 2003, when the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was debuted on Canada’s coins. The more informal depiction was designed by Vancouver-based artist Susanna Blunt.
