'P. E. S.' BLACK & RED ENAMEL PAINTED WWII MILITARY AMMUNITION BOX, HEAVY IRON HARDWARE, with HINGED LID & SLOT SCREW CORNER CONSTRUCTION
[For sale is this very handsome & super heavy-duty, WWII era, screwed corner, with thick wood construction, cast iron lid handled, US military wooden ammunition box, featuring the initials 'P. E. S.' stencil painted on the front of the crate's lower body, over a deep blood red enamel base paint. The box hasn't been touched & it has distressed, craquelure enamel surfaces. The box's interior, as well as its bottom haven't been painted & show evidence of being previously handled several times, with the expected abrasions & wear, seen especially on the base. The wooden lid's cast iron handle has naturally oxidized metal surfaces & color. The rear hinges of the crate are intact & the lid opens & closes freely. There's also an iron front lid clasp, which would've allowed the box crate to have been locked with a padlock, considering it once housed military ammunition & would have been carefully safeguarded. The painted finish has nice color & hasn't been noticeably diminished by the effects of sunlight & time. Very nice. 100% untouched & as it was when it was discovered in the home it was removed from. A great WWII vintage American military artifact. Terrific.]
