Mahonia are often called holly-leaved barberries since they are in the barberry family but look much like holly shrubs.
they are well suited to shady spots in your garden or landscape and are popular as privacy hedges because of their architectural, dramatic appearance.
the floral sprays are fragrant golden yellow blooming in late winter to early spring and are attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies.
the blueish berries are edible and taste like black currant. they also appeal to various birds that may take refuge in the thick foliage.
berries provide food for birds.
mahonia will grow in any soil, sandy, loamy, clay and any PH.

Zone: 5-8. they can get as low as 5 degrees f.
Light: low sun.
Soil: rich, well-drained soil to any variety of soil or PH.
Moisture: regular. they will tolerate low watering.
Height: 6-10' tall.
Width: 4'-7' wide.
