Original Map by Renowned W G Tombleson’s 1834 Work. Not a Reprint .


A truly renowned and respected Individual (1795 - 1846) , was an English artist, illustrator, engraver, writer and printmaker, based in London late 1820’s.


Volume 1 , covered the River Rhine and such and was in the style of small prints in Books only.


Volume 2 , Tombleson's Panoramic Map of the Thames and Medway was a steel engraved black / white print and published originally as a folded accompaniment to a book "Tombleson's Thames" by William Gray Fearnside, in 1834, in London.


However ,

Extra Large work depicting in colour Very fine detail the landscape where Commissioned by the Land Gentry but were few in number .

These where Done on Fine Paper with extreme clarity and engraved by renown era artists in colour .


It’s as if you are viewing the Landscape from a Bird’s eye view.

The map extends from river Thames source in Gloucestershire to the sea and shows in great detail the towns, countryside, landmarks, railways, bridges and roads.


It’s Length is a staggering 130cm by 55cm and has extraordinary detail even in its small scale , the Colours are very fresh still .


It has no rips or tears and overall is a 9/10 on quality , outstanding for a 189 year piece of fine work .


I have done some searching over the past 12years and there are only 8 Full scale like this one in existence.

Off these , All are located in grand Manor House’s and kept as Showpieces in their respected settings.


Commissioned Full Scale Versions like this piece where Few in number and are mostly kept and hardly sold , so acquiring one is a long bet .


It has never been out in the Light this Far .


Was acquired by Harrods in-house Antiques department from a County Estate sell in the late 80’s
