Offered is a Rare NOS 1973 Windsor Professional Track Bike w/ Original Campagnolo Nuovo Record Pista Group. This Iconic track bicycle is in original as new condition. Every detail is as it should be. All aspects of this highly collectible bicycle are in NOS mint condition. All of the components are original from factory. This particular model has all of the extra features not usually included. Pantographed Windsor saddle, pantographed rims in the extra rare gold variant. Also included are the period correct Panaracer tubular tires (new unglued). History:
The Windsor Professional track bicycle is a commemorative edition in honor of the Eddy Merckx World Hour Record in 1972.
Eddy Merckx (regarded by many to be the greatest cyclist of all time) broke the hour record in Mexico City 1972, riding an orange track bicycle with the Windsor logos and a full Campagnolo track group. Most experts agree that the frame set was in fact a rebranded Colnago. The story goes that Eddy Merckx wanted to honor the people of Mexico and rebranded his bike with the Windsor brand which is a Mexican bicycle company.
As a result of this, Windsor made this special addition track bicycle named the Windsor Professional, which in appearance resembles the bike Merckx rode. In addition, the exact Campagnolo gruppo equips this Windsor Professional track bicycle as was on the Eddy Merckx bicycle. The Windsor Professional is very well made, working in conjunction with Cinelli, this bike was a visual copy of the Cinelli Super Corsa, including such features as the Cinelli fastback seat cluster and chrome-plated spear-point lugs with 3 hole (sometimes only 2 hole) piercing. The Windsor Professional was made with Columbus tubing SL or an SL/SP blend and came with Campagnolo dropouts and fork ends and all Campagnolo Nuovo Record components. Cinelli wanted to enter the North American market and participated in the Windsor Professional design and supplied tubing & lug components along with expert assistance.
Condition Report:
This Windsor Professional Track bicycle is in absolutely new, unridden condition. The frameset and components are the originals that came with the bike when purchased. The only two flaws are a light scuff to the drive side seat stay and a light scuff under the top tube near the seat tube, note these are only light scuffs (not dents nor dings) incurred throughout the 50 years this bicycle was been in storage (see photos). There is no pitting to the chrome nor rust of any kind. The bicycle has been fully serviced by a professional mechanic, all is perfectly functioning as it should.
