MID-20TH CENTURY VINTAGE SIGNED MODERNIST WHEEL-THROWN, HAND DECORATED with VARIEGATED GLAZE in COBALT BLUE featuring EPISODES of MUAVE, VIOLET, BURNT SIENNA, TEAL & CREAMY YELLOW OCHRE COLORS, SMALL, 4 1/4" in HEIGHT, CERAMIC VASE with THE APPEARANCE of GLASS, AMORPHIC, TURNED SHALLOW POURING SPOUT, SIGNED ILLEGIBLY by the ARTIST on BASEPLATE
[Offered for your review & consideration is this absolutely gorgeous & very well preserved,
signed mid-20th century vintage Modernist wheel-thrown & hand decorated vase, with variegated color glaze, that resembles glass, more than it does a glazed ceramic vessel. It's unfortunately, as is often the case with especially American Modernist art pottery, illegibly signed on its baseplate. It's however, clearly the work of an especially gifted & very talented ceramic artist, with its swirling glaze colors of cobalt blue, mauve, light violet & embedded episodes of teal & burnt sienna. The tumultuous, even violent looking surfaces resemble the kinetic, perpetually moving atmosphere of the planetary gas giant, Jupiter. The vase has a delicate, amorphic top opening with a thinly rolled edge. The pouring spout is uneven & organic. The vessel sits on a raised, cleated round base where the clay isn't glazed. The inside of the raised foot is glazed & where the signature is found. There's no noticeable, visible damage such as scuffs, abrasions, ceramic loss or hairline cracks. Incredibly beautiful. Fantastic.]
