Warhol's Superman is from the " Myths " series of artworks created in 1981 that exemplifies his nostalgia for America's enchanted past, and love of his heroic childhood idols.
The Myths Portfolio consists of ten fictional characters from twentieth Century pop culture. Warhol chose from classic Hollywood films, literature and television to reflect and transform true American idols into Pop Art icons. As a child he found comfort in Superman comics - an unlikely hero he idolized.

The Myths Portfolio encompasses Warhol's personal life experience and the magic of 20th Century American Pop Culture. The Superman artwork is one of the most coveted images by collectors of all the Warhol art works.
