I have here for sale a book entitled CHINA UNDER THE EMPERSS DOWAGER BEING THE HISTORY OF THE LIFE AND TIMES OF TZŪ HSI. Compiled from the state papers and the private diary of the comptroller of her household. By BLAND & BACKHOUSE. Illustrated with , a tissue guarded frontispiece portrait of Tzu Hsi, and a further twenty-nine illustrated plates and double page map of Peking with numbered index ( complete). This first edition was published in 1910 by WILLIAM HEINEMANN, London. 

Fascinating work on the Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi of China, a nineteenth century Chinese noblewoman and concubine and later regent who was instrumental in the operation of the Chinese government during the late Qing Dynasty from 1861 until 1908.?Tzu Hsi was selected as a concubine of the Xianfeng Emperor during her early adolescence, during which she gave birth to a son, Zaichun, who would succeed his father as Emperor upon his father's death. This allowed Tzu Hsi to assume the role of co-Empress Dowager along her son and along with the previous Emperor's widow.

Bound in original green linen boards. Black title lettering with red seal design. Gilt title lettering on the spine. Some staining on the boards and spine, please see photos. Spine ends and board corners bumped. Inscription on the ffep. Scattered light foxing through the book. Front board is beginning to pull, back board is firm. Stain on bfep - lower corner. This book is in good condition, tightly bound with no loose or missing pages xv,525pp 27cm x 19cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. 

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
