All of our
winterfront inserts simply overlay your factory grille and bolt to it
using simple SS fasteners. This is done intentionally to allow roadside
removal without needing specialized tools like Allen or Torx drivers.
The supplied fasteners are 1/4"-20 pitch if you would like to dress them
up once you receive them. You will need to gain access behind your
factory grille which is usually accomplished by removing the fan shroud,
headlights, or simply raising the hood depending on your make/model.
We do recommend applying a light coating of WD40 to the bolt threads to
prevent galling during installation.
What is the difference in the Mirror SS vs Brushed SS finishes?
The brushed SS
has a slight grain to it and more of a matte finish. It can be shined
up with a metal polish but will still be less lustrous than the mirror
finish. This is a more economical option and hides scratches to the
finish much better than the mirror finish. The mirror SS is like
looking in a mirror and looks great on trucks with lots of chrome
accents. You do need to take extra care with the mirror SS inserts as
they are much more prone to showing scratches.
Is there any foam or backing on your inserts to protect the chrome on my truck grille?
No there is not.
Our testing has shown that if properly installed, the locknuts hold the
winterfront securely to the truck grille and do not mar or damage the
factory grille. If this is a concern to you, we recommend securing thin
packaging foam to the backside of the inserts prior to installation.
What temperature so I put on or take off my winterfronts?
These items are intended to be used in cold weather applications only. The vehicle operator should be aware of fluctuating temperatures while driving. Towing puts additional stress on the engine and transmission which outputs more heat. Please be extra aware if towing while using this product. Most diesel trucks have enough coolant capacity to run our winterfronts up to 40 degrees (F) when not towing. We have tested them in substantially warmer temperatures without issue but we cannot stress the importance of common sense and watching your gauges.
