William Holbrook Beard (1824–1900) was an American artist known for his humorous and satirical paintings, particularly those featuring anthropomorphic animals engaged in human activities. He was part of the artistic movement known as the Hudson River School and the American Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
Beard's paintings often depicted animals dressed in clothing and engaging in scenes that satirized various aspects of human society.
Throughout his career, Beard gained recognition for his unique style and imaginative compositions. His paintings are characterized by their detailed execution and witty social commentary. While he may not be as widely celebrated as some other American artists of his time, his contributions to the art world, particularly in the realm of animal caricatures, are noteworthy.
