Three Colorful Mexican Textiles
Here we have three pre-owned Mexican textiles. The large floral piece is a 28” x 47” long. The work is Tehuana, from Oaxaca. The piece was commissioned to be used either has a table topper or a wall hanging. The black material feels like a satin blend. The backside is a navy dotted cotton. There is one small part of the hem, approximately 4” in length, where the hem never was or has unraveled. It could be glued shut, if the buyer doesn’t sew.
The second item is a traditional weaving from Chiapas. It was intended for use as a table topper. The item measures 15” x 24. The red is as cheery as the day I bought it back in the early 90’s.
The third item is a mask made during the Covid 19 pandemic. The maker lives in Oaxaca and used the familiar black clay beads of the area to adorn the mask..and a small doll. What can say, it’s Oaxaca!
