History of standing bird decor:

I purchased these 9 Anke Drechsel standing birds from Horchow Finale in the early 1990’s. I love to set a beautiful dining table when I entertain and I thought these whimsical and intricate designed birds might look lovely at each place setting.

As I went to check out Horchow’s manager commented that I must collect Anke Drechsel. I confessed I was not familiar with the designer but appreciated the craftsmanship. Our conversation continued and I quickly realized that this was quite a find.

Anke Drechsel is a German textile designer and internationally recognized brand, founded in 1986 and renowned for exclusive hand-embroidered home textiles and accessories.

Anke believes that real luxury lies in true craftsmanship. Her quality fabrics are dyed to her own color specifics, and her exclusive designs are then individually embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, in her atelier by master craftsmen.

As a result, the collections have a continuous flow and unique style and can be "mixed & matched" to create a harmonious living space.

Given the date I purchased this flock it appears the creations were designed early in her career.

There are no labels or markings I can find on these beautiful pieces and I am relying on my place of purchase, Horchow’s and the input from the shop manager as well as my own research.

At the time of purchase these were selling for $125 each but marked down substantially as final sale. I have priced the bird (s) accordingly.

If you have eclectic taste and appreciate unique textile and design this may interest you.

Each bird is slightly different and depending on how you position the tail feathers of different size and appearance. They are petite and lovely. I am selling them individually. The last photo a bird is in front of a coffee cup to provide a sense of size.
