Two strips of horizontal red, black and orange stripes seamed together make this funky cat-in-the hat not-quite symmetrical rug / wallhanging / throw / bedcover, early 20th Century Anatolian creative up-cycling piece!

Thick kilim weaving striped crosswise with the “abrash” colour variation of naturally dyed wool. The irregularity of weave and of joining gives the unpretentious mood of jollity we love in tribal weavings. May well be composed of repurposed panels for divan cushion covers which had little use (or never got made): Panels have been carefully joined into strips and the wool is too soft for the "cuval" sack cloth, and hardly worn. The thick kilim flat-weave, closely knitted pied seams between panels and plaits along the edges, and the exuberant plaited fringe at one end are proof of well-cared-for and -made jijim which altogether miraculously forms a nearly regular rectangle.

A few little symbols seem to have been cast down like seeds on earth for fertility and luck.

Closely knitted seams, hemmed edges, unpretentious repairs and the exuberant plaited fringe at one end are proof of well-cared-for and well made jijim.

Little symbols of fertility and luck have been cast like seeds on earth.

The images are intended to give as full as possible an idea of the colour and condition of the weaving although this will differ from the actual piece.
