Jeannette Glass - Description

The Jennette Bottle Works Company, located in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and founded in 1887, produced handblown bottles.

Jeannette Glass - History

When glass machinery was added in the late 1890s, the company became The Jeannette Glass Company. Its first products were glass jars, headlight lenses, and glass bricks, known as sidewalk tiles. The company introduced a line of medical supplies in 1904. The company supplied glass candy containers to other firms during the 1920s.

Jeannette introduced pressed table and kitchenware in the 1920s. The company continued to thrive in the post-World War II era, during which it introduced a number of new glassware patterns. Colors included amber, blue, canary yellow, crystal (clear), green, Jadite, milk, pink, yellow, and more. Iridescent carnival glass was produced in gold and marigold.

In 1952, Jeannette purchased the McKee Glass Corporation, which enabled the company to expand into the production of heat-resistant and industrial glass. The Jeannette Glass Company ceased operations in 1983. Written by Harry Rinker {http://localhost:8080/dictionary/p/glass/--united-states/jeannette-glass}
