These are incredible earrings. They date from the 1870/80s. They are Victorian & true Egyptian Revival. These earrings depict a double scarab. The center scarab is ceramic, hand carved with hieroglyphics on the underside. The beetles are drilled in the center and pinned with a gold rod to the gold frame (I tried to get a close up of this in the photos). The outer frame is also a scarab crafted in solid with a 18K yellow gold. The details in the gold is hand finished to offer texture to the gold scarab. Really incredibly detailed work. The gold scarab also has six tiny old mine cut diamonds in bezel setting per earring. The bottom of the earrings are finished off with these very delicate fringe drops suspended by a swag rope design. When I received these lovely earrings some one had converted them to post backings. This was not a period correct look of these earrings, so we converted them back with a 14K shepherds hook. (contemporary). We left the remainder of the post base intact to allow for added stability of the overall design from the back. Other than the posts being removed these earrings are presented in excellent condition. I do believe one fringe drop has been replaced as it is testing as 14K when the others are 18K, but noted.
