I have for sale a BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED  book; a book which allows us to look back at how LONDON & EDINBURGH were changing and how they looked 200 years ago. With over 250 illustrations. The first volume being entitled METROPOLITAN IMPROVEMENTS: OF LONDON IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY: BEING A SERIES OF VIEWS OF THE ENW AND MOST INTERESTING OBJECTS IN THE BRITISH METROPOLIS & ITS VICINITY from original drawings by MR. THOMAS SHEPHERD, WITH HISTORICAL, TOPOGRAPHICAL & CRITICAL ILLUSTRATIONS by JAMES ELMES. This first edition was published in 1827 by JONES, London. With 160 engraved illustrations over 80 pages ( 2 engravings on 1 side of the page, verso blank) most with their tissue guards. Plus a plan of Regents Park; plus title vignette.

This is bound together with MODERN ATHENS DISPLAYED IN A SERIES OF VIEWS OR EDINBURGH IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY; Exhibiting the whole of the NEW BUILDINGS, MODERN IMPROVEMENTS, ANTIQUITIES & PICTURESQUE SCENERY. SCOTTISH METROPOLIS & ITS ENVIRONS from original drawings by MR THOMAS SHEPHERD.  This first edition was published in 1829 by JONES, London. With 92 engraved illustrations over 46 pages. 

Originally bound in half leather boards over marbled boards. Gilt title lettering on the spine on a black block. The spine is heavily decorated with gilt embossing. The board edges are worn, surface wear to the boards is evident. Cracks to the spine hinges. Boards remain firm. Lacking feps and back fly leaves.  Text pages are generally very clean and bright. Tissue guards are mostly present for the plates, a couple are torn with loss. Scattered foxing on the plates. This book is in good condition, tightly bound with no loose pages. 172; 88pp; 28cm x 23cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. 

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
