The FRX-400 is powered by a pair of high output EMG Pickups, consisting of an EMG 81 in the bridge position and an EMG 60 in the neck. The EMG 81 produces an incredibly intense sound, with a good amount of high-end cut. For the classic pickup combination, this LTD FRX guitar also features an EMG 60 pickup that has an excellent output with clarity and sweet sustain.
The ESP LTD FRX-400 has a 3-piece maple neck that is strong and more resistant to warping than classic 1-piece necks. The maple delivers a bright and twangy tone with good clarity, while the pau ferro provides extra articulation and attack.
The FRX-400 has a unique and striking body shape, as its sharp edges and striking bevels create an unheard of metallic appearance. The body is made of mahogany, which enhances the tone with richness and resonance, as well as a tone with good bite and sustain. Mahogany is a durable tonewood and works well with punchy rock music. The mahogany body is finished in black satin to complete the heavy metal look.
With a design that has stood strong for over 30 years, the Floyd Rose Special Locking Tremolo allows you to adjust string tension and pitch with the detachable whammy bar to create unique sounds such as dive bombs. Unlike non-locking tremolos, the Floyd Rose Special bridge can make large changes in pitch, but retains initial tuning by adding the locking nut at the end of the headstock.
