A superb and rare image of German Georg (Schorsch) Meier on the famous 500cc BMW Kompressor Supercharged factory racer. The shot was taken during a race event at the German circuit of Schotten in 1947. Meier is seen on his way to victory!

It was a very special event, as it was the very first post war race where the works Kompressor BMW participated in! During World War II Meier hid one of the BMW Kompressor works racers at his private estate. After the war it was the only Kompressor racer that was still owned by BMW. In 1947 BMW was allowed again to compete in racing, but only in national events. At the same time word came out that BMW had saved one of its works racers, and that it would participate at Schotten in 1947. What followed was quite a spectacle, as massive crowds showed up to see Meier and the Supercharged boxer BMW in action. Meier did not disappoint them, as he won the race with might!

Meier is seen cornering with the famous 500cc B.M.W. RS Kompressor racer, a terrific, powerful and mighty machine which was immensely successful in racing. It is without doubt the most famous BMW racing model ever and an everlasting monument of their technological capabilities! The 500cc boxer twin featured a Roots-type supercharger, which was mounted in front of the crankcase. The carburetor was on the right with the inlet pipes passing under the cylinders. The overhead camshafts were shaft driven.

It is a very nice non period photo, that reflects a wonderful era of BMW’s rich history in a wonderful way. This is your rare chance to own this photo, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 4" x 6" (ca. 10cm x 15 cm).
