Starfleet Command Gold Edition PC 2000 Big Box 30 New Missions
Whew!! ...the box, well... Remember the Enterprise's arrival at space dock in the opening scenes of "The Search for Spock?" It was still functional, but it was beaten full sore, causing the patrons of the space Starbucks to stand and gape at her as she limped in. I've included extra photos so you, too, can gape and imagine the mistreatment it's born in the service of its precious contents.
And about those contents:
- The CDROM case is flawless.
- The CDROM itself is flawless, and the data side is golden (rather than the standard silver) in honor of the edition!
- The ring-bound Instruction Manual is beautiful, though (except for the cover) printed in black and white.
- The Quick Reference Card is a tri-fold card stock laminated item in great shape. Stretched out it's 8-1/2 x 14.
- The Ships Information and all-important Damage Tables* Card is quartered-fold card stock, also laminated and in great shape. Stretched out it's 18 x 14.
- The Multiplayer Reference Sheet is non-laminated heavy paper stock giving instructions on how to install and setup "Mplayer." I wouldn't count on the info on this sheet to be currently (2024) relevant and should be considered merely an historical document.
* I owned (and still do) and played (not so much, lately) the table-top game (from the 1980's) this game is based on. It was called Star Fleet Battles by Amarillo Design Bureau. The Damage Allocation Tables decided damage amount and location using dice roll. My first computer program I ever wrote was for this game. It used a dice roll randomizer routine and read out the damage info based on the roll... using a Texas Instruments TI-94a Computer, a 13" Black and White TV screen, and an external portable cassette tape recorder to save and run the program. A tap on the space bar rolled the dice and the TV displayed the damage you needed to mark on your starship systems diagram photocopied paper. Heady days....
Star Trek: New Worlds (2000)
The CDROM, jewel case, instruction manual, and tech tree fold-out are in excellent condition. The box base is worn (see pic of System Specs and notice around that base flap) and the cover flap is warped as seen in several photos. It's StarCraft, but in Roddenberry's universe.
