ELEPHANTS

PRESSING IRON

A small bronze pressing iron in the form of a pair of elephants as shown in the images, is offered here in good condition for its estimated antique years. There is a join to the end of the stand and when examined closely, because they are unobtrusive and small, there are a few scattered white marks probably from decorating spray this being a not uncommon occurrence on items from old English country homes. The surface is indicative of its age and service and an unidentified small object has found its way through the reticulation to the foot plate causing a little rattle when shaken. As can be seen in the relevant image the underside is fashioned to cause a textured dimpled effect during a hot press application.

  • The piece is unmarked by a maker but it is thought that an Anglo Indian influence is perhaps likely.
