This sale is for an antique brass telescope that is engraved on the barrel of the eye piece "PERRY MASON & CO  BOSTON".  There is a  minor dent on the end of the large barrel  but most of what you see is glare from the photo. It appears that at some point someone engraved 3 initials on the barrel under "Perry Mason & Co". Online sources indicate that Perry Mason & Co, circa 1868, was a publisher of a magazine titled "The Youth's Companion", which was an American children's magazine. This publication had content for adults as well and had contributions from writers such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain, Booker T. Washington and Jack London.  Erle Stanley Gardner as a child was very fond of this magazine.  Gardner, who as an adult wrote numerous attorney detective novels, named his lead character Perry Mason, which later became the name of the famous TV character. His 80 novels were used for radio, television and motion pictures. The seller believes that this telescope might have been a piece that could have been one of many items featured in the back of the magazine as a premium or to purchase. This piece is in good condition with the glass intact.  The handle will be folded in for shipping. ***This piece is being sold for display or renovation with no promise regarding the optics***  Study the pictures carefully as there are no returns.  This seller does not ship internationally except for the Global Shipping Program.
