Handmade large bag in African wax print patchwork, using a selection of fabrics I have collected across 30+ years. This bag measures 42cm length x 50cm wide, with a 16cm flat base (photos 6+8). There are two flexible carrying options- short, wide shopper grab handles that are African print on one side with a reinforced light twill on the underside, and longer, double-sided shoulder straps. Perfect as a shopping bag, beach bag, or everyday everything tote bag. Could even be a laundry bag.

This bag is very strong but not too heavy. Both sets of carry handles are securely sewn in and the bag is fully lined with a vintage African wax print fabric (photo 7). I have chosen to overlock the inside seams rather than bag out (where the lining sits inside the outer bag) to stabilise the patchwork without increasing the weight.

100% cotton. Machine washable at 30c, medium iron.

The main pics show this bag stuffed with two large 18” cushions to demonstrate its comfortable carrying volume (you could definitely get more in!). All pieces were chosen and patched for this bag (not leftovers from other projects) and, as it’s double-sided, its completion took quite a while. You can be guaranteed there will not be another the same!
