Los Angeles Times July 6, 2000, by Susan Spano, The Inside Passage, Hooked on Fishing Alaska Travel Section, Photos 1 thru 4 show different shots of the front page. A novice halibut angler, Mike Payne, from the Rocky Point Resort, near Petersburg, Alaska. Rocky Point Resort to this date, approximately 24 years later. See photos 5 and 6. Rocky Point, Petersburg, Alaska was named after Peter Buschmann, a Norwegian immigrant who settled in Petersburg, building a cannery, sawmill, docks and early structure. Petersburg was originally incorporated as a town in 1910 and was known as Little Norway. Icebergs from the nearby LeConte Glacier provided a source for cooling fish. A Sons of Norway Meeting Hall was on one of the piers in the early days and still exists to this date. If you have never been in a Sons of Norway Meeting Hall, it's worth your time to visit one. I have included a picture of the Meeting Hall for reference. The picture is not in the newspaper article. In addition to writing the story, Susan Spano also took all the pictures. Susan said the 3 day trip cost about $1,000.00 and she also brought home $300.00 worth of fish. These are the prices as in July of 2000. There is also a short story about Hetch Hetchy by Michael Bildrick, see photo # 8. Hetch Hetchy is part of Yosemite National Park and celebrated in 100 year Anniversary in 2023. The photo shows the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir which is formed by the 430 foot tall O'Shaughnessy Dam, which the author and his wife are standing next to reservoir and Wapama Falls. The reservoir is the primary water source for about 2.7 residents of the San Francisco Bay Area. Photos 9 and 10 the Ancient Country of Oman, the South West corner of the Saudi Arabian Peninsula.
