From the much missed annual Old Fort Lowell Historic Neighborhood Antiques Fair some years ago is this I believe 1960's or so pair of Ed Levin (1921-2008) bench crafted sterling silver and 14K yellow gold forged hoop earrings. These iconic ornaments epitomize the pared down modernist aesthetic of this well known deceased studio jeweler.  They are modeled as continuous or endless hoops,  a rod of solid silver hand wrought to a wider ribbon at bottom to maximize the visual drama. So you know the long ear wires that insert into the other end of the hoop are crafted of 14K gold. While not so marked, Levin purposely added this solid gold touch to his signature forged hoops as an integral part of the design. The mid century look remains freshly "modern" and very much au courant - it can be special occasion or everyday, and will never be out of style. There is "LEVIN STER. BENN. V (the "t" not fully struck up)" to the inner surface of one earring, the genuine and proper lifetime mark from Levin's Vermont workshop. You can go to EL Designs (the Ed Levin homage studio) and get a nice pair of what are basically reproductions, or see the benefit in wearing these real vintage Levin crafted wearable artworks. Weight is very good for the form at about 6.4 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with an aura of time to the silver. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh away or "improve" upon any natural toning - you want that done you do it. The hoops are still as Levin envisioned them, and the ear wires work exactly as they should. All typical and expected minor signs of previous service simply validate a treasured five decade or so love affair. A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 1 5/16 in. (34mm) vertical from gold ear wire to bottom and 1 13/32 in. (36mm) horizontal. About 5.5mm wide at the bottom for a nice presence when worn about.  For those who know, an opportunity.
