I have here for sale a book entitled NOTES OF A TOUR IN THE MANUFACTURING DISTRICT OF LANCASHIRE by W COOKE TAYLOR. This book was published in 1968 by FRANK CASS & CO, London. With a set of XVII letters describing a tour around the region, the local Factory Systems, the workers,  conditions they worked in and their effects on the employees.

In the early 1840s he toured the northern English industrial centres and wrote considerably for the Anti-Corn Law League[2] and his observations of the factories of Manchester and Bolton provide a first hand account of the depression at that time. In 1843 he became the editor of Anti-Corn Law's The League.[2] He was extremely hostile to chartism and his defence of child labour in factories (on the grounds that it was preferable to starvation) attracted much hostile criticism.[citation needed]

This book is bound in red linen boards with gilt title lettering and small image on the front board and silver title lettering on a black block on the spine. The spine and boards are sunned and there is a library sticker on the spine secured with sellotape. There is a white spot mark on the rear board and some sunning. There are several stamps 'Withdrawn' from the Manchester Metropolitan University Library at the beginning of the book and a bar code has been sellotaped to the front loose endpaper. Library sticker and card on the rear loose endpaper.  There is a small stain on the fore-edges of pages 243 onwards but this does not appear on the actual page although it is on the rear endpapers.

This book is in good condition, it is tightly bound with no loose or missing pages and the print is clear and bright. 331pp.  22cm x 15cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
