I have here for sale a book entitled A DESCRIPTION OF THE COUNTRY FROM THIRTY TO FORTY MILES AROUND MANCHESTER by J AIKIN. This book was first published in 1795 by Stockdale, this is a facsimile of that first edition published by DAVID AND CHARLES in 1968.
'This very substantial work totalling nearly 800 pages with numerous engravings and several maps was published at a particularly interesting time of the Industrial Revolution- describes the rise of the water system in the North West, the increasing rang of the industries in the Manchester region. He gives particular account of the towns history, commerce and manufacturing. He also comments on buildings, government and other relevant matters at the time.' -from the dust jacket.  According to the title page it is embellished with 73 plates which are all present and include two large maps which are in a pocket inside the rear board. Includes general accounts of Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, West Riding of Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Account of River and Canal Navigations plus list of subscribers.

This book is bound in orange linen boards with gilt title lettering on the spine. A pictorial dust jacket has been sellotaped to the boards of this book.  It is sunned and its edges are tanned with age.  A library reference number has been written on the spine of the dust jacket and the jacket is chipped along the edges.  The boards are in good condition from the view afforded by the dust jacket, the corners and spine edges are slightly bumped.  There are library stamps on the front and rear loose endpapers and a 'withdrawn for sale' stamp on the rear of the half-title page.  There are a few marks on the edges of some of the pages.

This book is in good condition, it is tightly bound with no loose or missing pages and the print is clear and bright.  624 pp.  29cm x 22cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)

My main posting days are Monday and Thursday ie. If you place an order and payment is received after Thursday 12.00 noon your order will be posted out on Monday.
