Very good to near fine condition hardcover book. From the personal library of Lincoln MacVeagh, former US ambassador to Spain, Portugal, Greece, Yugoslavia, South Africa, and Iceland. He was also US Minister to Greece. Many of these appointments were during the sensitive times of WWII.


Exterior: Full leather binding is clean square and tight. Five raised bands on the spine. Gilt text on the spine. All page edges bright gilt. One illustrated plate is partially loose. It sticks out a little from the rest of the page edges…see photos. No corner, spine end, or edge wear. About 8-3/8” tall.


Interior: pages are clean with no handwriting tears or creasing. Lincoln and Margaret MacVeagh bookplate on front pastedown. Lincoln MacVeagh signed the second free page in pencil. The last photo shows the illustrated plate that is partially loose at the bottom. 452 pages.
