Here we have a very attractive hand-drawn envelope by a prisoner at the Lewisburg PA federal prison and sent to England. It has some wear and bumps from international postal handling. The envelope paper is slightly roiled, which shows up as dark lines on the image from my Honest Abe scanner. They are not on the original.

The prison-issue envelope gives a PO box but no direct indication of its origins in a prison. The inmate has written his name, Patrick Earl, and number in the space provided. The drawing is nicely done in colored pencil. Note the carefully laid out lines surrounding it. The se-tenant (different stamps attached) franking of bird stamps is a cross-booklet pair and complements the design. They are tied by a Harrisburg PA Zip Code machine cancel of 22 May 1989. The cover is addressed to one Richard Sawyer, Dog Kennel Cottage, Hollycombe, Liphook, Hants (Hampshire) England. The reverse has two Transorma-type mail sorting markings, which of which is quite faint.

A fine hand-drawn Pennsylvania and prison mail cover that would benefit from research -- could the inmate have turned his life around thanks to art? This cover has been relisted at a reduced price. I do not relist items indefinitely but return them to my show stock.

The postage on this lot is higher than I would like, which is down to Royal Mail rates and other charges beyond my control such as eBay and PayPal commissions.

I use good British stamps to send all my lots and these should result in collectable stamps cancelled by hand in my village post office for the buyer.

As I have some buy-it-now lots, anyone who makes a purchase might want to look at them before paying. If you buy more than one item, please wait for my invoice so I can combine postage

When payment is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item will not go out until the following Monday.
