Laser Iridium

NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs provide superior ignition performance combined with a much longer service life compared to standard nickel spark plugs. With 6.5 on the 'Mohs' hardness scale, iridium is the second-densest element to exist (after Osmium), yet it's also the most corrosion-resistant metal, even at temperatures as high as 2000 °C. Also, thanks to Iridium's excellent conductivity properties, it's the perfect metal element to use in spark plugs.

The laser welded platinum disc or tip (differs depending on part number) on the ground electrode provides extra durability, once again improving service life and bringing wear rate down to a minimum. With both electrodes working in harmony together, your engine will have a more stable idle with superior anti fouling, improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Another great feature is that some Laser Iridium part numbers in particular have a tapered ground electrode, in simple terms this is done to reduce as much obstruction as possible to the flame expansion (A.K.A quenching) as it starts to burn from the electrode tips. This allows for a more complete, efficient burn which in-turn increases MPG.

Features:

  • Laser welded Iridium centre electrode tip
  • Laser welded Platinum disc or tip on the ground electrode (differs depending on part number)
  • Trivalent metal plating for superior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing.
  • Easier, faster starts and quicker acceleration
  • Better fuel economy and lower emissions
  • Factory fitted equipment in many of today's vehicles (OEM approved design)

Vehicle Compatibility

  • Please search for NGK's spark plug finder website on a search engine to verify plug fitment.

  • If there's a compatibility chart added to this listing, please use it as a guide only and verify fitment with NGK's part finder website.

Installation

WARNING - DO NOT USE COPPER GREASE (AKA COPPER SLIP, ANTI-SEIZE, THREAD COMPOUND) ON MODERN SPARK PLUG THREADS!

  • Using such lubricants can result in over-torqued values with a torque-wrench by up to 20 percent! Possibly causing major damage.
  • Virtually all modern spark plugs feature a special zinc-chromate shell plating which provides corrosion resistance to the elements.
  • Spark plugs should be tightened down with a dry thread only.
  • On spark plugs that feature a crush-able base gasket washer, be prepared for tightening to feel odd (gets harder) at the last stage.
  • Follow the instructions on the box that show you to finger tighten first and then rotate the amount shown afterwards with a wrench.
  • The only time anti-seize compound should be used is on vintage spark plugs that use a non-coated, usually black surface.
