DVD #J226: WRESTLING from 1978
**This is two complete shows from 1978, original broadcasts from WOR-TV in New
York!!!
GREG VALENTINE v STEVE KING- Valentine makes his WWF debut, and would
become one of the promotion's biggest stars of the late 70's and 80's.
BOB BACKLUND & PETER MAIVIA v SPIROS ARION & VICTOR RIVERA- this
is the match where Maivia turns on Backlund and manager Arnold Skoaland, and
ends up being managed by Fred Blassie. I remember being 12 years old, and
watching this show at a relative's house in New York. The episode started at
Midnight, and I was so charged up over seeing the Maivia urn that I couldn't
sleep for hours! Mind you, I had already been watching for three years, and
since the WWF had never done a turn in that period, it was a major deal (as
opposed to now, where each promotion seemingly turns a wrestler every Monday
night, and no one cares.)
IVAN KOLOFF v THE GREAT SABU- I have no idea who this Sabu is, but it's
not Terry Brunk.
JIMMY & JOHNNY VALIANT v S.D. JONES & FRANK WILLIAMS- The
Valiants return to the WWF just after babyfaces Zybysko and Garea win the tag
titles. The old WWF was SO predicatable.
IVAN KOLOFF v TONY RUSSO
STEVE TRAVIS v FRANK RODRIGUEZ
BRUNO SAMMARTINO v KEN PATERA, jip from New York, 1977.
BARON SCICLUNA v FRED MARZINO- Scicluna gets a rare TV win.

commercials, which are often quite humorous.

of his matches v Jumbo Tsuruta, Rick Martel, and others are shown.

Plus promos for upcoming Madison Square Garden shows. The quality of this DVD is
below average but watchable and enjoyable.

being attended to on the arena floor.
JOHNNY & JERRY VALIANT & BULLDOG BROWER v LARRY ZYBYSKO, TONY GAREA
& DOM DeNUCCI- Lou Albano taunts the injured Strongbow, who is finally
taken out in an ambulance as the match is going on. As a result, a lot of the
match is missed. Don't worry- it's such a terrible match you'll be grateful to
watch something else.

about to finalize.
PAT PATTERSON & THE SAMOANS v IVAN PUTSKI, LARRY ZYBYSKO & DOM

Arab" at this point.
LARRY ZYBYSKO v BILLY COLEMAN- Zybysko returns to the WWF, and

gearing up for either a Zybysko turn or a major push. He got both.
BOBBY DUNCUM v BILL BERGER-. Arnold Skoaland does commentary, and gets
involved when Duncum and Lou Albano pound Berger. Bob Backlund tries to save
Skoaland, but he gets crushed. Frankly, Skoaland deserved to get beaten up for

beating over the suit he was wearing.
