Clever little frames, how the two lower ball detents hold the backing insert upon and into the back of the frame.
A beautiful example of this type, with a mated pair of songbirds on top. It is brass or bronze, perhaps.
My research points to 1880-1899 French manufacture, correct me if I am wrong PLEASE!!!!
