Exquisite antique Aesthetic Movement leatherbound sketchbook by unknown artist, not dated but c 1870s-1880s. Light edgewear, rubbing and scuffing to leather; corners slightly bumped; spine sunned. Most of the album is blank, there are 15 pages with an illustration on one side (thus would be suitable for framing without compromising the others). Stiff matte offwhite pages with traces of fingersoiling and foxing throughout. Contains incredibly finely detailed ink drawings, attentively colored in gouache or concentrated watercolors. A few architectural in nature, most are floral/landscape themed with calligraphic verses from Longfellow. All edges gilt. Tear along gutter of ffep. No prev owner names, stickers or stamps. Album measures 10 3/4" x 8 3/4", pages measure 10 1/4" x 8".
